Styles

The following style descriptions can help to see what style is right for your body type.

amy

This modest halter-style dress features a slim waist with an easy fitting skirt. The high waistband drops from a pleated bust line. The style is sleeveless and the back neckline is jewel. Because a normal bra can be worn, the style is sexy without being overly-revealing.

christine

This slim waist dress provides a basic shirtwaist classic style, easy to wear and easy to accessorize. A removable sash in coordinating satin, about 2 1/2 inches wide, is included. This dress style is especially flattering for the slender figure.

grace

This dress has a dropped empire waistline. The semi-fitted bodice falls gracefully into an A-line skirt. If you are thick-waisted, the empire dress will draw attention to your upper torso, not your waist.

kathleen

This two-piece dress has a top that is gently curved with princess lines and a separating zipper in the back for easy in and out. The two-piece is great for women who are a different size on top and on bottom. This dress gives the easy fit of two-piece dressing, but still adds the slimming look of a basic silhouette.

marikate

This semi-fitted sheath dress provides a basic silhouette unbroken by lines. The dress has dart fitting and a release pleat in the back on the straight skirt. For the a-line skirt, it is best to supply the skirt length, as right below the knee (25"-26") is recommended. The sheath is great for petites as it creates the illusion of height and length. This dress style follows the natural lines of the body, therefore making the body look taller.

marilyn

This dress has the soft gentle curves of a princess style. This dress style flatters any figure type. The A-line skirt works well if you need some extra room in the hip area. This dress is good for full figured women or women with an hourglass figure because your waist and upper body appear elongated. For pear-shaped women, the A-line will cover your lower torso and focus on your upper half. For petite women, the vertical lines add height. The Marilyn provides a slimming profile for any figure type.

Skirts are either straight, a-line or full. Each has a 1.5 inch waistband and back zipper to the top of the waistband. Elastic may be used in a casual jersey fabric, but we will contact you if that is recommended.

Necklines

Mandarin

Always elegant, this neckline style provides an exotic feel to your dress and just a bit of a collar.

Jewel

The classic choice follows the natural curve of the neck. This works well for accessorizing from jewels to scarves. It provides the most demure of necklines.

Bateau

This high neckline has little to no scoop, and falls just below the natural neck line. The gentle curve is flattering for most body types and can be casual, but comfortable.

Scoop

Soft and subtle, very slimming for the upper body, drop from neck is 6 1/2 inches. Drop can very slightly depending on size. This style accents the face and adds a touch of elegance.

Deep Scoop

A lower version of our scoop neckline, drop from neck is 8 1/4 inches. Drop can vary slightly depending on size.

Square

This neckline has a very pretty effect for most body types. The neckline frames the face and adds a current fashion re-visit. It falls 6 1/2 inches from the neck. Drop can very slightly depending on size. Back neckline is jewel.

Deep Square

A lower version of our square neckline, drop from neck is 8 1/4 inches. Drop can vary slightly depending on size.

V

This is the new classic with a 7 inch drop from the neck. Drop can vary slightly depending on size. This neckline looks good on most body types and provides coolness and a great place to show off jewelry pendants.

Low V

Sharp and sexy, this V drop is 9 inches from the neck. Drop can vary slightly depending on size. This neckline will probably show cleavage and is another great place to show off jewelry.

Sleeves

Keep in mind that you can always provide the exact sleeve length on the Sizing page.

Sleeveless

The sleeveless option is bare but not too bare. It gives a chance for coolness without exposing the entire shoulder area. It follows the natural arm curve with natural shoulder lines.

Cap

The cap gives a slight slant to a sleeve that covers the upper shoulder, providing coverage to the upper top of the arm but still being close to sleeveless.

Short

The short sleeve length varies by size in how long it is from the underarm seam. It covers the shoulder area, but not too much of the upper arm, and on average it falls 9 inches from the top of the shoulder.

Elbow

Elbow sleeves are 12-13" or so (depending on size) from the shoulder seam. Elbow-length sleeves come to the elbow on most people and cover the upper arm.

Three Quarter

This sleeve length is just below the elbow and on average falls 18 inches from the top of the shoulder. This style is great for those who like the "push up" look.

Long

Long sleeves are from the shoulder to wrist and on average falls 22-23 inches from the top of the shoulder. They are not too fitted, but add a slim silhouette to the total look of the dress as well as a touch of elegance. If possible, please provide the exact length you'd like when you place your order.

Skirts

Some dresses have the option of changing the skirt style.

A-line

The a-line skirt falls naturally from the hip.

Full

The full or party skirt has a nice swirl.

Straight

The straight skirt is a classic with a kick pleat in the back.

Lengths

All lengths are measured from the waist to the hemline. It is very easy to have the finished length just the length that you want by changing the dress length on the sizing page.

Knee Length

This length is just under the knee, classic and very fashionable.

Mid Length

The mid length is mid calve, a very popular length.

Long

Our default long length is 39", fashionable and elegant for day or night.

Pockets

Pockets are a popular add-on on most of the dresses. The pockets are deep and located on the side seams. Certain fabrics, such as silk chiffons, silk organzas, velvets, and georgettes, are not suitable for pockets. If the fabric you select is not appropriate for pockets, we will contact you by email with this information.

Add-ons

Add-ons provide one more way to customize your dress, if desired. You can choose one add-on in addition to pockets for your dress at no additional charge. At this time, add-ons are not shown on the dress form as part of the final dress.

Fabric

Fabric descriptions are provided on the Design your Dress page. We will line any dress where the fabric requires lining or on request, at no additional charge.
